Note: Our first quarter is winding down! Take a quick reflection of your 3 Non-Negotiable Traits: Perseverance, Love, and Self-Control. Are your numbers (1-10) improving? FYI: Quarter Two: 3 Daily Actions is going to be more physically active than this quarter. I'm actually going to try out my new "Little Changes Big Results®" Workout on my coachees in Qtr 2 (that will include an exclusive weekly YouTube upload--because I don't want the world to see it just yet:)--of 5 different exercises. I'll be looking for your feedback--too hard, just right, balanced, etc.?)
This week, I want you to look at an immediate way that you can gain self-control over your thoughts and feelings. It is called Breathing Prayer. Here is the principle: when you worry or fret or doubt or feel insecure, these actions and emotions can't and don't change anything. So first, recognize the signs of worry, fret or anger that will send you into a tailspin of loss of control versus a place of confident trust in the Lord. Second, stop and pray these words (and actually take a breath in and blow one out as you say them), "I breathe in Holy Spirit, I breath out __________________," Dr. Bill Bright, Founder of Campus Crusade for Christ taught people how to pray this prayer because much of the Christian life is the battle over our emotions--wouldn't you agree?
We hurt ourselves and others (with impulsive or compulsive activities) when we lose control of ourselves. Imagine, if you and I committed to BREATHING PRAYER even 50% of the time when we get flustered or tempted during the day, how might our lives be different?
Be encouraged,
Becky

Just wanted to stop in and say how much I am blessed by these weekly calls.
ReplyDeleteBecky you just give us the best, most organized topics to apply to our lives. I am so grateful that I can settle down for a few minutes each week, focus on some new ideas and then carry them off to employ them. This week's topic was right on!
Many blessings on your new radio show with Roger.
I know we're all really thankful for the way God is using you.
I love the breath prayer, but how easily I forget it. I think this is what i have been trying to work on with my word each day...creating a focus...working on making my word for each day into a prayer.
ReplyDeleteExercise breathing the Holy Spirit in and breathing out insecurity. Every once in awhile it creeps into my life little thoughts that take me captive. Thanks Becky for the reminder of how to pull God back into our lives.
ReplyDeleteHuge chance to use the prayer this weekend.
ReplyDeleteOur business is running a GRoupon type coupon.
I have had the crankiest customers. Most are great, but some have been mean mean mean. Mean on the phone and in Email.
I have some severe dental problems right now, lots of exposed nerves. The dentist is on a missionary trip, plus they are waiting insurance papers etc. So I am living on Advil, and Tylenol. These customers are making life extra miserable, and stressful.
I have been employing the prayer. I need it!
Laura.
I posted but from my mobile phone and wouldn't you know the post would not go through. I love the hint to breath in the Holy Spirit and breath out fear, anxiety and discouragement. I want to ask you to pray. I am completing 8 weeks as a table leader for Overcoming Depression (OD) by Neil Anderson. I will be taking an idea on Thursday night that I heard from from Charles Swindoll that I heard on Insight For Living on March 11. He had a group he had taken to the Holy Land throw in stones into the Sea of Gallilee to represent burdens. I am going to take that idea and have the group take pennies and after telling where I have come from encourage them to give the pennies to symbolize losses, burdens, emotional, physical pain, resentments, habits, perhaps someone that needs to be forgiven and give it to Jesus. Then we will sing All to Jesus I surrender. For me I have to release my son and let God write his testimony as encourage by Lysa in Proverbs 31 ministry. He will probably be homeless in the next 7 days, I am going to give God my fears for my grandchildren and his wife. I have been rescuing him and perhaps preventing God's solution and now I do not have the amount of money that he needs to rescue. But I have peace that God will care for him, because of being God's word. I would covet your prayers for my testimony on Thursday night March 24 and then for a solution for my son Dale and his family. Blessings....Diana

ReplyDeletePrayers surround you and your family Diana.
Breathing Prayer is absolutely amazing. The breathing in of the Holy Spririt and acknowledging the fret or fear is easy.
And, the surrounding of the holy spirit of my body and mind is very protective. To extend this I can control myelf with my memory verse.
Diana I am praying for breakthrough with you until we see it...B
