Week Six: Love that proves...

John 13:35, "Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

The goal of this series is to leave a legacy to the next generation as a leader, lover, and healer. As we enter our second month and the second of the non-negotiable traits of a Healthy, American Woman, it is perhaps our toughest challenge and highest standard to be known to all by the way we love...

How do you love yourself?
How do you love God?
How do you love your family and/or friends?
How do you love the hurting or helpless?

As you answer these questions this week, your motivation can best be found in a response to the way God loves us. As we follow the lead of Jesus, we know that serving others is the "way" of the Lord. As ambassadors of the living, loving God, we know that through our pain and past, we can be wounded healers. As women of the word and prayer, we know that AS we love ourselves and others, God's power and presence will be felt and seen and heard by others.

Be encouraged,

Becky

  1. I just listened to last weeks call so I am a little behind...which takes me to a quote that I cut out of the paper last week: "If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. YES!
So, my action verse for love is, "I will bless those who persecute me; I will bless and not curse." Romans 12:14 My prescription is to look up continously at the Author and Perfector of my faith - especially when I am getting hard pressed on every side. He is my refuge and strength - a very present help in times of trouble. Help me to remember this in the heat of the moment Oh Lord, My Redeemer, my Rock. It is soooo hard to do. I need Supernatural help every minute of my day. Thank you Lord, that You are there when I cry to You in need, You will answer me. Amen

  3. LOVE
Love the Lord your God with all your heart. God is always available to love and be loved.
Love your neighbor as YOURSELF. My internal dialogue
reveals my heart. Do I say mean things to myself?
    That insults God's creation.
Wishing for more opportunities to love on my family.
When they live far away that is a challenge. I have incredible friends and I want to take time to love them.
I serve in those in my community who are helpless and needy. Apart from my family, serving those in need is the most rewarding things I do.
May you each be surrounded by God's love: abundant, unlimited, unconditional, supernatural.

  5. Leave a Legacy of Love:

This assignment reminded me to reflect on the goals I set in week three for my faith, family, and future. Though not identical to the questions asked, the thoughts are similar.

With daily time, prayer, and study, I love God. For myself I offer patience and the time to love God. My family and friends are loved with understanding and undending service.

My memory this week and appropriate reminder to leave a legacy of love (Ephesians 4:32; Be kind and loving to each other, and forgive each other just as god forgave you in Christ.

Hopefully I will reach my potential for God's Glory. With unusually cold weather for South Texas, I am taking myself to a "spiritual scout camp" this weekend. I am excited!

  7. How do you love yourself?
    How do you love God?
How do you love your family and/or friends?
How do you love the hurting or helpless?

How do I love myself? I have to watch my self-talk. More times than not I am my own worst enemy. I love myself by taking my thoughts captive and renewing my mind. I love myself by being kind to myself. I have to remember condemnation is from Satan and Conviction is from the Holy Spirit. I love myself when I do not eat when I am not hungry. I love myself when I follow through and exercise. I love myself when I go to God instead of the world for approval.

How do you love God? I love God by being in His Word daily and by praying. I love God when I put Him first. I demonstrate his love by giving him all the glory and honor. I love God when I let go and let God. I love God when I trust God more than myself. I love God when I spend time with Him daily.

How do I love my family and friends? I love my family by praying for them. I love by giving the gift of babysitting the grandkids. I love by helping financially when I can. I love my grandchildren by telling them about the love of Jesus. I love my family by demonstrating God's love. I love my friends by being a good listener, by praying, and by not gossiping. I encourage through text messaging, emails, and telephone calls.

How do I love the hurting or the helpless. I have given sacrifically to one of my sons who has been struggling with unemployment. I listen to those are hurting and give them the reason for my hope. I give to a little girl through childrens international, a radio ministry, and my church. I am available. I am a table leader for overcoming depression through my church.

It seems prideful to say these things but I am learning to help others by sharing the hope I have in Jesus Christ is what God wants me to do on a daily basis. By being in his word and praying, I recognize opportunities to share God's love. I am God's child, a friend of Christ, I have been given the gift of encouragement and a ministry of reconcillation. I truly am loved. Blessings Diana

  8. How do you love yourself?
Well, maybe how should I love myself more...by taking better care of my diabetes. I keep using the excuse that I have too much stress and no one cares. Even my doctor said it was getting in the way of taking care of 'me'. I need to focus on it much more, and it isnt easy.
    How do you love God?
Spending time in His Word (now daily), surrendering to His plan for me and ultimately glorifying Him through that.
How do you love your family and/or friends?
Praying for my sister, who stopped speaking to all of us about 7 years ago. Praying she will come back to the family. Praying for unsaved loved ones and friends.
How do you love the hurting or helpless?
I have a mild case of fibromyalgia and have on occasion led our local support group. We have new people coming every month, and quite often they are in bad shape and need someone to listen and to care. Looks like, by no decision of my own, I am going to have to help lead for awhile because no one is stepping up to volunteer.
My small group leadership training from church will come in handy. It's rather a big task, because there is fine line between letting people talk and letting them dominate or ramble. And, to make it harder, we're not allowed to have religious discussions if we are leading. That can be good (no new age tangents) or bad (no Bible).
I'll have to establish relationships and work outside of the groups walls, in order to witness but I will have a huge opportunity to do so. Our membership has been as high as 39 people per month, so it is a large group with many needs.

  9. just lost my long post, this happens often. I am going to attempt to write it again but not sure if the words will flow like they did a few minutes ago.
Mickey, you certainly have the ability to make me smile. I have missed all of you as well. I have been in and out of town for the last 3 weeks and not had much access to a computer.
Love, love, love all you need is love: God's love that is! Love has been my theme for a few weeks now. Love of God keeps me on my knees praying and reading the bible and captivating my thoughts. Love has me praying for those in unbelievable situations that I know only God can solve. Love has given me hope when all seems lost. Love has reached out to the hurting with compassion and non judgement.
Diana, thank you for your thoughtful post no I didn't see it as prideful but a way of sharing with the rest of us resources to show and be God's love.
LOVE Theme: changes everything doesn't it?

  10. How do I love myself? By taking care of myself with exercise, fresh simple food, music, rest, reading, a spa weekend coming up, family time....
How do I love God? Meeting with Him to pray and read His word, obey Him even when it is really difficult, praise Him and worship Him corporately and alone. I love Him by hugging on my children and husband, and by not giving up. Praying at the bedside. Loving family with prayers, thanks, encouragment, sacrifice of time , taking care of our home and pets, teaching them new things, forgiving and lots of grace extended. Friends - praying, helping, feeding them homemade soup, calling, checking up on them, gifts, knitting. The hurting and helpless - giving to urban ministries, serving meals (not enough though), donating clothes, coats, toys etc, compassion Intl - 2 children - mens ministries, young life, search, evangelism ministry, hospice. I could do so much more in this.

  15. Mickey I LOVE how practical you are with your answers--especially the "letter a week" to husband and boys. Even if they are short, they create a conscious effort in us to affirm and love our family. Thoughts are not like actions. Actions are visible to others. Our thoughts may never be expressed or known by others! B
